Halloween Safety

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st and we encourage residents to trick-or-treat on that holiday night, regardless of whether it falls on a weekday or weekend.

The Town of Franklinton and the Police department suggest those that would like to trick-or-treat do so during our recommended trick-or-treating hours of 6-8pm.

In order to keep our residents safe we offer the following tips to ensure and safe and enjoyable Halloween:

  • If possible, go out in groups. All children should be accompanied by a parent, adult or other responsible party.
  • Wear bright shoes, or place reflective tape on your candy bags so you can be seen by other pedestrians and cars.
  • If you are driving within a neighborhood, please drive slowly and with caution as their will be an abundance of pedestrian activity.
  • Ensure your child can comfortably breathe and see in their mask if you allow them to wear one.
  • Bring a flashlight to help prevent accidents or falls as you walk in the dark.
  • Remind your child if they become lost or have an emergency to call 9-1-1 if they are not close enough to ask for help from one of several police cars we will have stationed throughout the neighborhood near downtown.

If you are planning to hand out candy for Halloween, please turn on your porch or exterior lights so everyone knows it is okay to visit your home. If you do not want to participate in trick-or-treating, please leave your porch or exterior lights off. Make sure Halloween lawn decorations allow trick or treaters to safely enter and exit your property.

If you have any questions, please call Town Hall at (919) 494-2520.
