Franklinton Uptown Revitalization Committee Plan of Work: 

 January 2009 to December 2009

Vision:     

Mission:      To manage and lead the revitalization of Uptown Franklinton.

Implementation Strategy:      Uptown Franklinton utilizes the National Main Street Center’s Four Point Approach as tools for growth of the downtown:

(1) Organization to build consensus and cooperation among many groups and individuals with an interest in downtown; (2) Design to enhance the physical appearance of historic buildings, encourage supportive new construction and develop sensitive design management systems; (3) Promotion to market the traditional district’s assets to customers, potential investors, new businesses, local citizens and visitors; and (4) Economic Restructuring to strengthen the district’s economic base while exploring new opportunities and meeting new challenges.

Continue the work of the Franklinton Uptown Revitalization Committee

Develop pocket parks in selected areas of downtown. i.e.  “Albright” property

Continue and expand Frankenfest

Distribute Downtown Marketing Packet

 

Research “Payment In Lieu of” Land grants to fund design projects

Seek cross-promotion opportunities with school and organizations hosting community events

Market downtown to new businesses

 

Implement the Franklinton Streetscape Plan

bullet Identify alternatives to reduce visual impact of overhead wiring in areas where underground wiring is not feasible.

Host  “Movies on Main” throughout year

Promote downtown investment or reinvestment to property owners

 

Create design plan to address downtown safety

Create FURC website content

Pursue grants and other opportunities to finance economic restructuring projects

 

Adopt minimum design guidelines for downtown.

Establish positive working relationship with Chamber of Commerce

Track efforts to improve downtown safety

 

 

Revive “Fun-N-Sun”

 

 

 

Implement “Welcome Wagon” program for new residents and businesses
